Grand Canyon 2008

We had a wonderful time at the Grand Canyon and can't wait to go back again--many years from now. It's a great trip and a national historic site we should all see. The facilities are very comfortable and everything is available at the South Rim--the more popular spot. Many hotels at differing levels and dining facilities. We highly recommend making the trip!
The first photo below is Hopi House designed by Mary Elizabeth Colter to be a display venue for Native American arts and crafts and was lived in by some of the artists at one time. Then, Kathryn had a great time playing the snow and making snow balls to throw into the canyon. We were very bundled during our stay. We developed a ritual; we went out and played for while and took pictures, got cold, went inside to warm up, then went back out again.

Views of the Grand Canyon and El Tovar hotel in the 2nd photo. The snow fell the day before we arrived, and was beautiful. About 14 in. fell on the rim, but the snow doesn't penetrate deep into the Canyon. Temperatures are about 20 deg warmer inside the Canyon. You can see the snow line in some of them.

Looks like a fun time! I've never thought about going to the Grand Canyon in the winter, but it must be nice to be there and hike around without the haze of heat that comes in the summer.
I love the picture of Kathryn with the snowball!
We got in just after I sent the error message to you -- GREAT photos -- great subjects, the snow really hilites scenery. K -- what wonderful smiles!
